I’ve been in the slums recently. I am in my summer break from school. So far I have picked up some habits that I am not a fan of. During school I had a pretty good diet a lot of whole foods, meal prep, and minimal processed foods – occasional protein bar. Now, I eat a whole bunch of foods that don’t quite sit right with me, physically or mentally. I would like that to change.

I also started to see a decline in quality of sleep and later to bed times. Which again I am not very satisfied with. Sleeping in different beds, and sleeping way after sunrise. My change in sleeping habits I would say has affected me the most, because I feel like it affects all of me, muscle soreness, planning and critical thinking. Which I think is why I will tackle my sleep schedule first. Its just finding my perfect time. Many moons ago I used to be in bed by 8PM and up at 5AM, now as much as I enjoyed that its no longer applicable to my lifestyle, quite a few nights I work until 9:30PM. So 8-5 is out the window. And 11-8 is a little to late for me, and a few too many hours past sunset and after sunrise. I think what would work best for me is 9/10-7 would work the best for me. Heres why if I am in bed by say 9:30PM it gives me time to read, journal, meditate and plenty of time without my device. 9:30 is also not too late, and for the nights I work until 9:30 I can adjust by half an hour or so hence the 9/10 gives me some leeway. I found when I was in school I never had an issue with not seeing 11pm on the clock.

I also found that there is an increase in screen time. I used to struggle immensely with screen time specifically Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat and Tiktok, the latter I imposed a ban on. In my younger years I wised up and ended up purchasing a flip phone, one of my favourite phones ever! Unfortunatly it ended up breaking several months later. Several years later I hopped back onto the flip phone train, but was brought to a quick halt when college started, I found I needed a device on me and with me during class or around class. And group chats never quite worked for messaging with I knew I would struggle with, I have dreamnt of going back but found my life is currently intertwined with technology. I’ve also started to pick up the habit of watching television, for the longest time I refused to have a television in my room, as I found it a distraction. I also felt like it invaded my room and stole attention, easy to fall into the habit of coming home and watching television. I do have a rule where I only watch television with others, I just always find myself with others nowadays. This is another habit I would like to change.

The final aspect of my life I would like to change is physical activity. In myr past I used to quite active with my peak of 5-6hours a day of physical activity. Obviously, I do not have that much time anymore, as much as I wish and would love it, that is no longer sustainable, and it wasn’t sustainable then anyways. I used to hit the gym 3-5x a week, balancing that with BJJ, a touch of kickboxing and “rucking”. I am planning on integrating working out into my new lifestyle, which is currently being designed and built on the daily.

I think an excellent plan would be to use this as a way to keep myself accountable, as well as document my journey.

Thank you Robbie.
